Ouda Senethavy.
Vintage Style
Everyone has their dream dress. (Usually a one-time dream wedding dress.) I love wearing dresses, everyday if I could. This is a dress I made remotely for my Advanced Apparel Construction course in the Spring 2020 semester. When my teacher saw my fashion sketch she said, this is an Ouda dress- a dress she could see me wearing. :)

This is a modern take on the classic shirt dress. I was inspired by vintage style, Parisian style, minimalism and the drape of linen. My goal was to make a dress that is timeless and could be worn for any occasion.

Isn't it amazing to create something with your own two hands? It wasn't easy. The bust was too pointy so I had to adjust the darts on my pattern. Then, the arms were too fitted and I had to redraft them and sew them again. Why can't we get things on the first try? Because that's not how life works. Haha. How many times did Benjamin Franklin have to try before he successfully invented the light bulb? Isn't there a quote about the best way to learn is by doing? I learned a lot through my mistakes in this project.

In the project before this (my dream pants), I did a lot of sewing by hand which came in handy when I needed to slipstitch the hem of the skirt. It is not only important to learn new skills but also, to use them.
